Medjool Date Homemade Spiced Rum

Ingredients

  • 1 750 mil bottle of quality dark rum
  • 2 allspice berries
  • 1 whole cardamom pod
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 3 whole black peppercorns
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 4 strips of orange peel
  • 1 whole vanilla bean
  • 8 whole coffee beans
  • 3 Natural Delights® Medjool dates, pitted and cut in half lengthwise

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients in a clean glass bottle with a good sealing lid. Leave in a cool dark place for 24 hours, after 24 hours or so gently swirl the bottle and leave another 24 hours.
  2. Strain the mixture into a large clean bowl using a mesh strainer with a tripled piece of cheese cloth placed inside the strainer. If you have a large bowl with a pour spout, that would be best. Rinse and dry the original glass bottle you used. Pour the strained spiced rum back into the bottle, seal with lid. Store for later use or use to make Medjool Date Blood Orange Spiced Rum Punch or any cocktail that calls for spiced rum!

*While Medjool dates are high in natural sugars, they are low on the glycemic index thanks to a balanced amount of soluble fiber. The complex carbohydrates found in Medjool dates are digested at a slower rate, making them a source of dietary fiber and releasing energy to the body over a longer period of time.
