6 Ways to Refresh your Workouts

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut while navigating your day-to-day routine. Routines can become tiresome after too much repetition, and so do our workouts. Maybe you’ve hit a plateau or you just need to hit that refresh button. Here are six tips to revitalize your healthy habits with ease.

Create a new workout playlist.

You’ve probably experienced that moment when you are “in the zone,” and it’s completely interrupted by the start of the wrong song. You have to stop what you’re doing to pull out your phone and press skip; this could happen several times and it completely ruins your momentum!  Workout music motivates, entertains and sets the tone, allowing you to focus and push yourself physically. It only takes a few minutes to create the perfect playlist. So it is well worth taking the time to do that in advance so you can stay focused on your workout without interruption.

Don’t skip your pre-workout snack.

Chances are a workout isn’t the only thing on your daily agenda, and you could really use a boost of energy before working up a sweat. A small snack that includes fruit, peanut butter, yogourt or a combination of those can be the extra kick of energy you need to work effectively. Unplug from your phone.

Think of the gym as your “you” time. Don’t check your social media, emails or apps while working out. This will not only help you stay focused; it will also impact the efficiency and intensity of your workout. Unplug yourself and reconnect with your body – it’s good therapy!

Limit the socializing.

Although you enjoy the company of your gym buddies, it’s important to keep the focus on your workout and limit the time spent chatting and hanging out with others. Recruit your gym partner to help maintain motivation and inspiration. You can always socialize afterwards with a post-workout smoothie or coffee.

Keep up the intensity.

We’ve all been guilty of this. Work? Check. Healthy lunch? Check. Work out? Check. We put on our athletic gear, go outside or head to the gym, but we just go through the motions; we drag ourselves through a workout just to fulfil an obligation. Are you actually putting effort and energy behind your workouts? The more intensely you perform, the more calories you’ll burn and the stronger you’ll become. It’s easy to convince yourself that you’re tired and don’t need to push yourself or just get stuck in a boring routine. Remind yourself of the purpose of exercising and drive yourself to reach your fitness goals.
